Stephen A. Smith, a well-known Pittsburgh Steelers supporter and ESPN analyst, is openly questioning whether general manager Omar Khan is the right person for the job.
Following the Steelers’ decision to trade wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, Smith criticized the team for creating another roster gap and still lacking a clear direction at quarterback.
On ESPN’s First Take, Smith expressed his frustration: “Who is Omar Khan? I was rooting for him, but how long do we have to wait for a real quarterback? With Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow in the division, you’re giving us Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson? That’s unacceptable.”
Khan was appointed GM after the 2022 NFL Draft, during which the team selected quarterback Kenny Pickett. However, Pickett was quickly moved on after just two seasons, raising concerns about the team’s stability at the position.
Since taking over, Khan has emphasized building the offensive and defensive lines but has overseen a revolving door at quarterback. The Steelers have reshuffled their QB roster again this year and are reportedly still hoping to land Aaron Rodgers, who recently cited personal reasons for not committing to the team.
Ultimately, Khan’s legacy will hinge on his quarterback decisions, particularly leading up to and including the 2026 NFL Draft.
