A Pittsburgh Pirates fan who was seriously injured after falling at PNC Park last week had been celebrating a play moments before the accident, according to newly released stadium footage.
The video, obtained by CBS, shows Kavan Markwood enthusiastically reacting to a Pirates hit before accidentally falling over a low railing in front of him.
The footage supports police statements that the incident during the seventh inning of the Pirates-Cubs game was a tragic accident.
Markwood sustained a broken neck, back, and clavicle in the 21-foot fall. Despite the severity of his injuries, his condition is improving. A GoFundMe page set up for him shared that he was able to walk on Monday for the first time since the fall and is showing encouraging signs of recovery.
Though he still faces a long road ahead, his family remains optimistic about his healing process.
The Pirates expressed their support and prayers for Markwood at the PNC park the day following the incident.
