The Panthers might be the best fit after the Steelers cut veteran Terrell Edmunds to create space on their 53-man roster.
Terrell Edmunds, a safety with the Steelers, may be cut by the Ravens and Panthers this season. After the veteran’s second stint with the team ended without a full season, the Steelers are reportedly moving on from him.
Prior to joining the Pittsburgh 53-man roster, Edmunds was a member of the Jaguars practice squad. Unexpectedly, Edmunds was released in order to make way for Tyler Matakevich and Ben Skowronek, thus if no team claims him, he should return to the practice squad.The Steelers didn’t want to spend any time with that, either, since Edmunds was listed as injured this week. The Virginia Tech graduate, who was initially chosen in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, was a serious threat in the secondary and eventually replaced Morgan Burnett after gaining first-team experience. After recording 105 tackles, two for loss, and three passes defended in 2019, he continued to be a reliable member of the club. However, because the Steelers chose to remain in Pittsburgh until 2023 rather than pick up his fifth-year option in 2021, his worth was declining.
Edmunds is now a free agent after serving as a journeyman with the Eagles, Titans, and Jaguars. He might still have some energy left to contribute in a depth role after recording 417 tackles, five sacks, and five interceptions. Even though he is no longer a starter in this league, teams can still choose to design their secondary room around his seasoned presence.

Derrick Henry was signed this offseason, and the Baltimore Ravens now boast one of the strongest offenses in the past ten years. Following their trade for Diontae Johnson to make room for Nelson Agholor in a depth role, they finally addressed the wide receiver problem. Even though Lamar Jackson has strong two-set weapons in Rashod and Zay Flowers, they still need to retool their secondary game. The Ravens gave up 34 points, 428 yards, and four touchdowns to Joe Burrow following a close victory over the Bengals.
Although Kyle Hamilton remains their most reliable choice, Edmunds might be able to provide some relief as a temporary veteran alternative. Edmunds doesn’t have to work full-time, but Eddie Jackson is more of a rotational player and Marcus Williams hasn’t been reliable this season. He might be able to provide the Ravens secondary as a whole with financial rental assistance while Hamilton heals from his injury. Edmunds might gain from playing for a team like the Ravens, who have all the necessary components to win a championship before he retires, especially now that Cameron Sutton is back in the starting lineup in Pittsburgh.
Building for the Future
Even though the Carolina Panthers’ 2024 season is finished, they can still begin planning for the upcoming years. They wanted to be a competitive club this season, but ever since benching Bryce Young in favor of bridge quarterback Andy Dalton, the offense has been struggling. Other than signing a few practice squad reserves, Dave Canales didn’t do anything to assist the secondary room. This didn’t help Jaycee Horn and Xavier Woods have a productive season on the field.
If the Panthers choose to rely on someone like Edmunds for a short-term position, they will not suffer any losses. He will most likely have to earn a new contract, but if he can overcome the disappointment of 2019, he would be a starter next to Woods.
